On July 11, 1893, ALFRED Louis Bernardin patented his invention of the 'Bottle uncapping tool'. Six months later his competitor William Painter patented a similar design for opening the crown cork. Because William Painter managed to create a bigger success of his product, he is now known as the inventor of the bottle opener. To give credit to the first inventor of the bottle opener, 'Nieuwe Heren' decided to design a bottle opener and name it after ALFRED Louis Bernardin.
